Using CPC and VPN technology to build a virtual manufacturing system

Abstract: the concept of using CPC and VPN technology to build a virtual manufacturing system is proposed for the first time. The system takes CPC as the integrated platform of generalized enterprise information, process and management, VPN as the physical network support, and closely connects product design, manufacturing, procurement, marketing, sales and customers through Internet technology, so as to effectively solve the problems of platform and network security in virtual manufacturing. Finally, the feasibility of the theoretical framework of the virtual manufacturing system is verified by an engineering application example

1 opportunities and challenges faced by the manufacturing industry

virtual manufacturing (VM) is a new manufacturing mode, which is a comprehensive technology formed by multi-disciplinary advanced knowledge, such as computer network technology, graphics, mechanical and electrical products cad/cam technology, artificial intelligence technology, computer simulation technology, virtual reality technology, computer integrated manufacturing technology, concurrent engineering technology, system engineering and so on, Its framework and architecture play a key role in the research and application of its unit technology [1]. However, through the research of the author of this paper, it is found that before the improvement of production safety level, there is still a lack of systematic research on virtual manufacturing at the level between enterprises, which can not ensure the safe exchange and sharing of product data and information and the complete collaborative work between enterprises, which limits the further application of virtual manufacturing technology

with the advent of the era of B2B e-commerce and enterprise e-commerce, and the mature development of technology characterized by the federal product cooperative development environment centered on Internet and web technology in the past two years, the manufacturing industry is facing a new change: customers need to customize their own products; Product manufacturing requires cross department and cross enterprise collaboration, and these departments and enterprises have their own unique business processes and information systems; Temporary combinations are needed within enterprises and between enterprises, loose alliances have increased sharply, and virtual enterprises have begun to appear. In order to adapt to this business environment, enterprises need to use a technology to enable them to quickly acquire and process all kinds of knowledge and information, and effectively combine and use all available resources in the world. Collaborative Product Commerce (CPC) technology is a solution proposed by data report printing to meet the above needs of enterprises [2]. At the same time, this global cooperation through the Internet is facing the problem of how to build a safe, reliable, convenient and fast generalized enterprise network, so as to save network construction and communication costs. Virtual private network (VPN) technology came into being. Its basic point is to turn public into private, so that each enterprise can temporarily excavate some resources from public for its own private use. VPN can make full use of the existing road resources, provide an economical and flexible connection mode, save the investment required by equipment, personnel and management for customers, and reduce the telecommunications costs of users, so it has been rapidly applied [3]

under this background, the author first proposed the idea of applying CPC technology and VPN technology to virtual manufacturing, using CPC software as the information and data integration platform of generalized enterprises, and VPN hardware as the physical network support to solve the problems of platform and network security in virtual manufacturing. Firstly, this paper makes a conceptual design and the construction of the basic framework, and further discusses the implementation of specific projects

2 basic concept design

Product Collaborative Commerce (CPC) is a concept proposed by Aberdeen, Gartner and other internationally renowned IT consulting companies in the late 1990s. It is a kind of software and services of Internet technology, which enables individuals to jointly develop, manufacture and manage products throughout the product life cycle, regardless of their role in the process of product commercialization, and regardless of what tools they use, No matter where they are geographically or in the supply

Its basic structural framework is shown in Figure 1

it can be seen from Figure 1 that the security of data transmission in the virtual manufacturing system is guaranteed by VPN. It takes full advantage of the advantages of VPN, such as low cost, easy management, low overhead, high flexibility, good confidentiality and so on, and solves the security problems of the network from three aspects: privacy, integrity and authenticity. Among them, confidentiality ensures that outsiders cannot see or obtain data during data transmission; Integrity ensures that the data is not modified and can arrive at the destination as is; Reliability ensures that the identity of the communicating party is correct

at the same time, different from the engineering data of products managed by PDM in the past, the virtual manufacturing system uses CPC to manage the data of the whole life cycle of products, including conceptual design, product definition, procurement, production and manufacturing, service, maintenance and even product scrap. It also provides a seamless link between the scattered data sources of manufacturing enterprises, so that when products develop and change over time, a common product representation can be established. As a system, it contains many small and independent subsystems applied to different stages of the product life cycle. The architecture of CPC is divided into three layers, as shown in Figure 2

the first layer is the basic database, including all product related information and knowledge wealth; The middle layer is a channel for collaborative work by exchanging various shared data and entity models through interconnection and communication between enterprises; The third layer is the e-commerce application layer, and all kinds of data generated are sent to DBMS for unified management

4 specific implementation and application of the system

in order to develop a new product, the design teams of three enterprises a, B and C located in different countries form a development team as partners. They will spend a week to jointly design and manufacture the product through the Internet. Among them, the CPC software adopts Windchill of PTC company to ensure that the three design teams can share and access information at all stages of the product development process; VPN adopts the firewall technology of LinkTrust cyberwalltm series, and all data are organized in a unified database environment to ensure the seamless cooperation of different parts produced in these three companies. The structure of the specific implementation scheme is shown in Figure 3
